MicroAire teams up with Charlottesville businesses to produce PPE

MicroAire employees and local businesses supporting our brave heroes on the front line

Friday, April 17, 2020 – Charlottesville, VA – MicroAire Surgical Instruments has modified part of its production facility in Albemarle County to produce face shields for health care workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.

With an open-source design from the Makerspace website, MicroAire reached out to C’ville Materials (CMI) and Danny’s Upholstery to acquire raw materials such as laser-cut polyester film and adhesive-backed foam strips. MicroAire’s in-house machine shop created a custom dye to shape the component parts, and today an assembly line at MicroAire is producing tens of thousands of face shields.

In addition to the custom-made shields, MicroAire donated over 6,000 face masks to regional health care facilities through the SupportCville.com donation center located at Champion Brewery.

MicroAire is grateful for the collaboration with these local partners, whose dedication, creativity, and flexibility help to renew the spirit of community action during this unprecedented time in our history.
