Springbok Analytics Secures $5M for Muscle Health Scans
Springbok Analytics is making scientific gains.
The news: The muscle health diagnostics platform secured $5M in a Series A round led by Transition Equity Partners, with participation from the NBA and others.
Picture perfect. Analyzing rapid MRIs, Springbok creates AI digital twins of muscle and skeletal structures, decoding muscle composition and symmetry.
Achieving FDA clearance, it’s scaling across life sciences and orthopedic medicine fields to measure efficacy of MSK treatment. Piloting studies with the NBA, NFL, and MLB, teams are using the tech to predict injuries, track recovery, and optimize training.
With repeat scans revealing not only gains but also the toll of a season, women’s hoops league Unrivaled contracted Springbok to scan all 36 athletes ahead of its Miami debut.
Mass movement. Extending beyond athletics, Springbok’s ability to quantify sarcopenia has stoked interest from developers of GLP-1s and muscular dystrophy therapeutics.
Tapping performance expert Dr. Andy Galpin as advisor, it’s also negotiating partnerships for combat readiness, wellness, and longevity.
Uninterested in its own brick-and-mortar, CEO Scott Magargee said new funding will be used to expand FDA approvals for a “performance whole-body MRI” product, while exploring MSK integrations for other preventative scanning clinics.
Looking ahead: With high-tech body composition showing BMI the door, using diagnostic imaging to discover opportunities—not just threats—is the next frontier.
