From a Father’s Mission to a Founder’s Path: How Luminoah Grew from Idea to Company

When Neal Piper’s son Noah was diagnosed with cancer at age three, enteral nutrition became a daily reality of the family’s life. Tethered to an IV pole or hauling a bulky backpack, Noah’s world looked nothing like his twin sister’s. Neal set out to change that: he pulled together a team of medical device experts to build a smarter, more dignified way to deliver enteral nutrition. That mission to build a brighter future became Luminoah — a name that blends “luminosity” and “Noah.”

The path from idea to company got a critical head start through a relationship with CvilleBioHub President Nikki Hastings, which opened the door early. Around that same time, Neal sat in on a CvilleBioHub Speaker Series session on FDA approvals — and the road ahead stopped feeling abstract. Listening to other founders describe how they’d navigated the regulatory path, he could suddenly picture his own. “That was the moment building a medical device company finally felt achievable,” Neal says. That confidence — that this was actually buildable — is what carried him from idea to company.

Luminoah is FDA cleared today, helping families navigate the same daily reality that once defined Noah’s. Noah himself is cancer-free now — that chapter behind him — but for Neal, that’s the real return on the confidence CvilleBioHub gave him: a mission that started with one father’s fight is now helping the next family navigate theirs.
