We have an exciting opportunity for a Contracts and Licensing Accountant within our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics business located at Charlottesville, Virginia. The position of Contracts and Licensing Accountant is within our Cardiometabolic/Informatics Group and is responsible for Accounting, invoicing, revenue recognition, and customer contracts data management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops cross divisional revenue sharing models for leadership decision making and answers questions to obtain approvals from Senior Leadership
  • Collaborats across departments for resolution of order or contract issues
  • Discusses contract discrepancies with customers
  • Responsible for contract validation for license approvals in SalesForce.com
  • Process contract and service delivery invoices in QuickBooks daily
  • Maintains financial related documentation for all government contracts
  • Maintain customer sales tax exemption certificates and update sales tax rates in QuickBooks
  • Evaluate, escalate, or independently resolve any revenue recognition issues with orders sent to finance for processing
  • Record and track orders in orders database including review of expiring and pending contracts
  • Maintain customer relationships for strategic accounts to facilitate batch invoicing and related questions
  • Reconcile and maintain deferred revenue customer detail and post to QuickBooks daily
  • Manages invoicing and revenue recognition for oUS intercompany contracts
  • Ad hoc financial analysis and development and reporting of key sales, financial and operating metrics
  • Reconciliation of inter-company revenue accounts
  • Record and reconcile customer Pre-Paid Order Reconciliation Spreadsheet
  • Process vendor application forms, W-9 requests, and other external communications as needed
  • Reconcile cash and associated bank accounts weekly
  • Post journal entries to QuickBooks for accrued revenues, depreciation, amortization, and other ad hoc entries
  • Ensure effective internal controls, including the write up of the top two revenue recognition transactions each month, while enforcing policies/procedures that comply with US GAAP, SOX, and company policies
  • Work as back up for Controller on order processing approvals
  • The ability to work effectively across multiple functions of the organization
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and use sound judgment
  • Effective planning and organizational skills and very strong demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Openness and ability to learn from others and apply knowledge in a strategic manner

Experience and Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required with specialties in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years minimum accounting experience required
  • Effective knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) required
  • Advanced proficiency with financial systems and tools (Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, Microsoft Access) required
  • Advanced financial accounting proficiency (balance sheet, P&L, cash flow, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability supporting internal and external financial audit reviews
  • Demonstrated ability to present financial data and concepts to management and non-financial resources
  • Strong analytical skills, conceptual thinking, ability to analyze and problem solve with incomplete or ambiguous data
  • A strong business acumen is required with the ability to highlight contract issues
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CMA, desired
  • Software revenue recognition experience strongly preferred
