Embedded Systems Engineer


Scanoptix is an optical system and software platform that beams images from the instruments doctors use to care for patients, transmitting them seamlessly and securely into the patient record, and to other connected healthcare team members — whether on the other side of the clinic, or half a world away. The application is for optical (visible light) imaging of the human eye using a mobile imaging device for improved diagnostic accuracy, practice workflows, and telemedicine solutions.

Scanoptix is seeking a passionate embedded systems engineer to join our team towards developing our next generation imaging hardware.

Key Responsibilities

The role will enable the company to conduct device and component iterations locally. This person would work closely with a primarily virtual team of engineers as well as our technology vendors, and would also help us set up an evaluation and testing space in Charlottesville.

Experience and Qualifications

Required Skills:

An engineering degree (EE, CS, CE) or equivalent experience demonstrating understanding of embedded systems and operating systems concepts.
Programming experience in C or C++ with skills in threading and memory management.
Experience in communicating to peripherals over low level interfaces such as I2C and SPI.
Understanding of Linux configuration relevant to embedded systems.

Bonus Skills:

Experience of writing or porting drivers.
Experience with image sensors and image data manipulation.
Electronics design skills.
