Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Luna Innovations is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager.  The EHS Manager will be responsible for managing site EHS programs, which includes compliance with Business, Corporate EHS standards and guidelines and state/federal law. This position encompasses all EHS activities for Operations, R&D and Manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer programs, which ensure that all governmental regulations and corporate guidelines are met.
  • Work closely with operations to drive implementation of programs to ensure all federal, state, and local EHS regulatory requirements are met.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the business on workforce related EHS issues.
  • Conduct EHS audits of business locations and provide strategic issue resolution.
  • Develop, conduct, and coordinate effective EHS training.
  • Conduct and/or validate near miss and accident investigations to determine root cause and proactive solutions.
  • Act as the company liaison with regulatory agencies.
  • Recognize and evaluate conditions that are potentially hazardous to employee health, facilities, equipment and products.
  • Develop and implement the company’s safety, health and environmental related policies, procedures and programs.
  • Develop, implement and maintain facility EHS improvement strategy.
  • Manage EHS data for regulatory compliance and corporate reporting.
  • Maintain, track and report chemicals, their usage, emissions, and compliance with Federal and State regulations.
  • Obtain and comply with necessary environmental permits.
  • Work with regulatory agencies (EPA, FDA, etc.) for new products adoption (e.g. TSCA listing, Pre-Manufacturing Notices, REACH compliance, etc.)

Experience and Qualifications

  • BS in Fields of Environmental, Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, or other related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of EHS experience with focus in manufacturing/R&D environments.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT HMT, EPA and USEPA regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company (laboratory to executive level) as well as outside organizations (customers and regulatory agencies) as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (training/presentation, facilitation, team building, communication).
  • Proven record of problem solving, results and accomplishments.
  • Initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision
