Principal Image Processing Engineer

RIVANNA seeks a Principal Image Processing Engineer who will lead technical aspects of image processing algorithm development our medical ultrasound-based medical imaging products.

As a Principal Image Processing Engineer, you will be responsible for the realization and verification of medical image processing algorithms, including but not limited to segmentation, registration, and 3D visualization. You will be the technical lead for all image processing development at the company and will be responsible for mentoring and directing other members of the engineering team.

This is a hands-on role with a particular focus on the effective and timely delivery of novel medical ultrasound image processing algorithms as well as contributing to an innovative multi-disciplinary engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define system specifications and evaluate image processing algorithm architectures that meet the specifications
  • Demonstrate leadership and competency in the development, deployment, and integration of image processing solutions
  • Collaborate and innovate with all stakeholders, including management and the end-customer
  • Deliver image processing algorithms and products on schedule and on-budget
  • Mentor junior and senior engineering staff
  • Contribute to defining and maintaining development standards for the development team
  • Support the maintenance of the R&D and product-level image processing development platform(s), tools, and infrastructure
  • Contribute to federal grant writing, proposal development, and other means of securing product development funding for RIVANNA

Experience and Qualifications

  • Masters/PhD in Computer Science/Machine vision/Biomedical Engineering or other related discipline or equivalent
  • Minimum 7 years experience developing and productizing medical image processing algorithms
  • Experience in image processing and analysis
  • Familiar with DICOM standard and DICOM open-source library (dcmtk, etc.) preferred
  • Familiar with C++, Python, and other programming languages
  • Experience in using one or more open-source image libraries, such as OpenCV, ITK/VTK, etc. preferred
  • Experience in GPU technology (OpenCL / OpenGL) preferred
  • Good reading and writing skills
  • Experience in leading or participating in medical image processing software development projects preferred
