Cerillo, headquartered in Charlottesville, VA, is a seed-stage company in the $100B life sciences tools market. Originally founded as a spin-out of the University of Virginia, Cerillo pivoted from initial product R&D to high-growth commercialization in 2021. As we rapidly expand our team, we are looking for growth-minded teammates who are focused on making an impact, both professionally and in the world at large.

In the role of Product Manager, Cerillo’s newest team member will be a key member of Cerillo’s Product team. This individual will be responsible for a wide variety of duties and expectations within the product management realm, including product documentation, technical support, and managing new product development processes. This individual serves as a key “customer-facing” representative to our scientific customers and has responsibility for ensuring Cerillo’s products meet the various application needs of our customers. The Product Manager is expected to intimately know each Cerillo product and quickly and adequately serve all customer segments, including end-users and internal customers. Cerillo’s Product Manager is curious in nature, a strategic thinker, detail-oriented, a relentless problem solver, and enthusiastic to make a massive impact within our growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

Product Management

  • Actively partnering with Cerillo’s Head of Product and Chief Technology Officer to develop and manage Cerillo’s product roadmap across all product disciplines (hardware, software, and consumables)
  • Developing and managing product requirements documentation via a multi-pronged approach of extensive research of the competitive landscape, the assessment of qualitative and quantitative product data, and collaboration with both existing and potential users (such as user interviews, usability testing, beta testing, etc.)
  • This incorporates both enhancements to existing product lines as well as ideation of new products in the development pipeline
  • Developing and managing product application validation and documentation methodologies
  • Developing and managing product application notes, technical documentation, and other customer-facing documentation
  • Actively engaging with the Cerillo Engineering Team for all aspects of product ideation and development (hardware, software and consumables)
  • Assessing and crafting approaches for product adoption, and produce pertinent training materials for internal and external customers

Technical Support

  • Serve as the internal “voice of the customer” by understanding and relaying inbound customer support requests, including product troubleshooting and sales support
  • Maintaining support ticketing platforms and prioritizing product enhancement requests based on user feedback
  • Assisting with the Cerillo Customer Relationship Management system and data

Team Member Expectations

  • Be a self-starter with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Occasional product marketing and sales support as deemed necessary by the Head of Product
  • Ad-hoc requests as deemed necessary by the Head of Product, Chief Executive Officer, and/or Board of Directors

Experience and Qualifications

Position Requirements

  • Ability and desire to interact with customers on a regular basis. You will serve as a corporate ambassador and need to exhibit the enthusiasm and desire to solve hard problems for our customers.
  • Willingness to travel as needed, including internationally, up to 10% of time. You will have the opportunity to represent Cerillo during strategic partnership meetings, industry trade shows, and onsite customer visits across the globe (including Europe, Australia, Japan, and more).

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, marketing, business, or related discipline required
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience and a demonstrated track record of accomplishments
  • Solution analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to think ahead and plan over a 1-2 year time span
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • A history of demonstrating relentless user focus, particularly in product development.
  • Must work effectively with senior-level executives and staff; must also be able to work independently
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including all MS Office applications. (Word, excel, outlook, PowerPoint) required
  • Must have strong customer support orientation (for internal/external customers), demonstrated professional demeanor, and the ability to maintain confidential information
