The R&D Program Manager will oversee contract research projects, ensuring they align with and contribute to the development of Acuity products, while also meeting deadlines and budget requirements. This position includes serving as the principal investigator for certain corrosion projects. We are seeking a dynamic leader with a strong background in contract research and project management. The ideal candidate will be skilled in coordinating interdisciplinary teams, managing projects, and fostering innovation within the framework of contract specifications.
Supervisory Role: Yes
- Completes routine 1-1 discussions with assigned team members to assess workload, project scheduling, and professional development activities.
- Provide guidance to junior staff to support professional progression in their relative position.
- Conduct annual performance reviews and professional progression/promotion evaluations.
- Work with HR to resolve personnel conflicts.

Work Environment
- Duties may occasionally be completed remotely using secure company equipment and software, at the supervisor’s discretion.
- Occasional travel to client sites, conferences, and related events is required.
- The role involves working in a laboratory environment and interacting with technical staff.

Key Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
Project Management and Execution:
- Manage contract research projects to ensure alignment with Acuity product development goals.
- Work with principal investigators to develop and implement project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate and facilitate cross-functional project teams to deliver contract research projects on time and within budget.
- Monitor contract research projects progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Lead corrosion projects as principal investigator
- Work collaboratively with the contract department from the proposal stage to the closing of projects.
- Ensure all project activities comply with contract terms and conditions.
Financial Management
- Develop and manage contract research project budgets, ensuring cost control and financial accountability.
- Oversee principal investigators to monitor and forecast projects direct labor and expenses.
- Track and analyze financial data related to project costs, expenditures, subcontracts, budgets, and forecasts.
- Prepare financial reports and present findings, recommendations, and financial status to the group director.
Team Leadership And Development
- Lead the R&D contract research team, fostering collaboration and effective communication among team members.
- Manage direct reports performance, providing regular feedback and conducting performance reviews.
- Mentor and develop direct reports, promoting professional growth and skill development.
- Continuously improve project management processes and communication strategies to enhance team collaboration and project outcomes.
Experience and Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education: Masters in Materials Science, Corrosion Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field. Ph.D. is preferred.
- Experience: At least 5 years in project management and serving as a principal investigator, with a strong emphasis on contract research, preferably involving government-funded projects.
- Demonstrated history of successfully managing multiple complex contract research projects.
