Senior Research Scientist

Contraline

Contraline is seeking a Sr. Research Scientist to be a core member of our research and development team. This will involve performing studies and experiments on Contraline’s hydrogel-based products, managing external partners/collaborators, and involved in new product development/innovation. The Sr. Research Scientist should have strong, hands-on, and broad lab skills, data management and organization, and have experience with statistical analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute laboratory experiments involved in mechanical, chemical, and biological hydrogel characterization.
  • Manage both internal and external biological evaluation projects and milestones, including assisting with animal and human factor studies.
  • Data management, data cleaning, and statistical analysis including hypothesis testing and predictive modeling.
  • Generate figures and reports for company documentation, including internal and external presentations, regulatory and quality system documents, and patents.
  • Provide input on R&D projects and contribute ideas and insights for new research products/programs, opportunities, and IP.
  • Develop protocols on new techniques, translate protocols in-use to SOPs, and validate protocols.
  • Assist with laboratory planning, inventory, and staff training.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a scientist or engineer in a laboratory setting and involved in product development; preferably in an industry setting. Experience with hydrogels and/or injectable biomaterials is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science-related field, PhD preferred.
  • Prior experience with a startup is recommended.
  • Experience having worked on FDA-regulated products (drugs or devices).
  • Strong programming stills (R, Python), 1-3 years experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to new goals.
  • Strong communication skills and an analytical mindset.
  • Extremely proactive and results-oriented.
  • Collegial, positive outlook, thoughtful and persistent personality with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
