Senior Scientist

Bonumose is searching for a Senior Scientist whose responsibilities will center around enzyme immobilization, enzyme carrier evaluation, development of the ideal reaction system, identifying factors for optimal long-term packed bed reactor (column) operation, and scale-up of lab/pilot-scale systems to commercial scale.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in the optimization and development of biomanufacturing processes that use immobilized enzymes for the production of several healthy food ingredients.

The candidate will work closely with Bonumose’s Chief Scientific Officer and other members of Bonumose’s team.

Work environment:

  • Work will be conducted primarily in a Biosafety Level 1 biological laboratory with extended periods of standing, and occasional heavy lifting (30+ lbs)
  • Occasional work in a manufacturing environment.

What you will do: 

  • Optimize and develop Bonumose’s core biomanufacturing pathway, including aspects that affect enzyme efficiency, enzyme immobilization, carrier conditioning, and reaction conditions
  • Develop model systems that can be used to mimic large-scale production in a laboratory setting
  • Aid in the monitoring and troubleshooting of Bonumose’s manufacturing packed bed reactors
  • Coordinate experiments across research teams and document results in lab notebooks, reports, and presentations
  • Investigate new enzyme carriers
  • Interact with third parties, including contract research, development, and manufacturing organizations
  • Build lab capabilities by selecting and implementing new equipment and workflows

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a relevant field
  • (Preferred) Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a relevant field
  • Experience in relevant areas: enzyme immobilization, enzyme characterization, physical chemistry related to immobilization carriers, continuous bioprocessing, packed bed reactors, analytical chemistry methods such as HPLC and plate reader assays
  • (Preferred) Experience in an industrial setting, manufacturing experience
  • Excellent organization and time management for performing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
  • (Preferred) Experience with the design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis
