Staff Accountant

Bonumose, Inc.

Under general supervision of the Vice President of Finance & Accounting, the Staff Accountant administers and maintains complete and accurate records, preparing, monitoring, and compiling financial transactions and production performance reports in compliance with Company policies and generally accepted accounting principles for Bonumose’s first rare sugar processing Demonstration Plant in Charlottesville, VA. The Staff Accountant will work on site weekly during regular business hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Closely track all of the inputs that go into producing Bonumose’s tagatose and other products, and calculate/track the cost of goods.
  • Track A/P, A/R, and expense receipts, and assist in preparation/review of financial statements.
  • Work with Bonumose’s auditors and tax return preparers.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts by performing complex reconciliations of key balance sheet accounts including cash, accounts receivable, commodity/consumable inventories, payable accruals, capital assets, labor, utilities, rent and tax liabilities.
  • Verify data, confirm adjustments, and prepare journal entries from operational systems used for original business transactions. Analyze data for reasonableness, research and resolve variances, and work with the plant manager to coordinate and establish departmental information flow and recommend process improvements.
  • Receive, verify documentation, and settle payment for commodities and consumables delivered to the Plant.
  • Confirm the validity and maintain documentation relating to all Bonumose rare sugar transactions. Assist with the writing of detailed sales, inventory purchase, and production cost reports.
  • Extensive communication with Plant Operations Team to reconcile errors and improve processes and accuracy.
  • Maintain company internal control policies safeguarding all Company assets.
  • Review/pay invoices, and review/reconcile credit card statements.
  • Prepare credit applications for vendors.
  • Communicate with equipment lease financing companies.
  • Assist with managing insurance needs.
  • Other financial-related responsibilities as assigned by senior management.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or other business area where Accounting is required. Two or more years related experience with a manufacturing organization. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for meeting the minimum requirement.
  • Must possess a good understanding of fundamental accounting concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Proficient in Cost Accounting.
  • Experience with ERP systems – specifically Sage X3.
  • Must have a general understanding of manufacturing and related accounting processes.
  • GAAP, planning and organizational skills, analysis/problem assessment.
  • Ability to write reports and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and communicate verbally and in writing with all levels.
