Mass Spec Technical Analyst

The Mass Spec Technical Analyst will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and running the analytical facilities and instrumentation necessary to analyze data from biological assays as part of HemoShear’s proprietary and collaborative partnership drug discovery program teams.

The Mass Spec Technical Analyst will be expected to work both independently and in a self-directed manner as well as collaboratively alongside a larger assay team. Additional responsibilities include analytical method development, sample processing, and data analysis.

The position involves teamwork, high levels of communication, and ensuring scientific excellence. This position is based in Charlottesville, VA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and run the HemoShear analytical facility, including mass spectrometers, HPLCs, and supporting equipment
  • Responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical equipment
  • Assist with assay data acquisition in medium- to high-throughput (96/384-well) formats
  • Use necessary software for data analysis while maintaining accurate laboratory records
  • Partner with chemistry and biology teams to troubleshoot through technical and scientific challenges to deliver critical data
  • Present results, conclusions, and implications to project teams and senior management
  • training other laboratory personnel in assay development

Experience and Qualifications

  • B.S. with 5+ years’ experience, or M.S. with 2+ years’ industrial experience
  • Experience/expertise in mass spectrometry, experience using Sciex and Agilent instrumentation, as well as Analyst and MassHunter software
  • Experience with reverse-phase chromatography
  • Experience with ion-exchange and HILIC chromatography compatible with mass spectrometry is a plus
  • Must be a self-starter, proactive, cooperative, and proficient at working both independently and in a small team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
