Payroll and Benefits Specialist

RIVANNA is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Benefits and Payroll Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of employee benefits administration and payroll processing.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of benefits and payroll regulations, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

This is a part-time, 32-hour-per-week position.

Key Responsibilities

Benefits Administration:

  • Oversee the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other voluntary benefits
  • Coordinate open enrollment processes and communicate benefit changes to employees
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including the Affordable Care Act (ACA)

Payroll Processing:

  • Process and manage payroll for employees accurately and in a timely manner
  • Verify timekeeping records and resolve any discrepancies or issues
  • Calculate and process payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, and garnishments
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports to relevant stakeholders
  • Compliance and Recordkeeping
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records related to benefits and payroll
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, such as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and IRS guidelines
  • Assist with audits and respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies

Employee Support:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits and payroll-related inquiries
  • Assist employees with enrollment processes, claims resolution, and other benefits-related matters
  • Provide guidance and support to employees on payroll-related issues and inquiries

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in benefits administration and payroll processing
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and data integrity
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes affecting benefits and payroll

Experience and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred
  • Proven experience in benefits administration and payroll processing
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to benefits and payroll
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems and payroll software; experience with ADP, Paychex, or similar platforms is a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • HR certification (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional, Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) is desirable but not required
